How to Install Sims 4 Custom Content (2026 Guide)

A simple step-by-step guide to installing Sims 4 CC. Find your Mods folder, install files safely, and fix common errors in under 5 minutes.

How to Install Sims 4 Custom Content (2026 Guide)

New to Sims 4 custom content? Don’t worry — installing CC is easier than it looks. Most players get their first piece of CC working in under 5 minutes. This guide walks you through every step, from finding your Mods folder to fixing the most common errors.

Before You Start

Custom content (called “CC” for short) is fan-made clothing, hair, furniture, and more that players like you create and share. Most CC lives on Patreon — creators post early-access CC for their paying members, then release the public files a few weeks later. sims4mods.cc indexes these public posts so you can find everything in one place.

One quick safety note: Always download CC from the creator’s official link (Patreon, their personal site, or a trusted database like ours). Random file-hosting sites sometimes bundle malware.

Step 1: Find Your Sims 4 Mods Folder

The Mods folder is where The Sims 4 looks for custom content. By default it’s at:

Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 / Mods

On a Mac: ~/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods On Windows: C:\Users\<your-name>\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods

Can’t see it? Make sure hidden files are visible. On Mac press Cmd + Shift + . in Finder. On Windows open File Explorer → View → Show → Hidden items.

Step 2: Download the CC Files

When you find a piece of CC you like on sims4mods.cc, click through to the creator’s Patreon post and download the file. CC files usually come as .package files (the actual content) or as .zip/.rar archives you need to extract first.

Most modern CC is a single .package file. If you downloaded a .zip, double-click to extract it and look for the .package inside.

Step 3: Move the File Into Your Mods Folder

Drag the .package file directly into your Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods folder. You can put it in a subfolder if you want to stay organized — Sims 4 reads subfolders automatically.

A clean Mods folder might look like:

Mods/
  ├── hair/
  │ ├── clutterfly-clover-hair.package
  │ └── okruee-coco-hair.package
  ├── clothing/
  │ └── clumsyalien-denim-dress.package
  └── furniture/
      └── simpliciaty-modern-sofa.package

Step 4: Enable Custom Content In-Game

Open The Sims 4. Go to Game Options → Other and check both boxes:

  • Enable Custom Content and Mods
  • Script Mods Allowed (only if you installed script mods)

Restart the game. Your new CC should appear in Create-a-Sim (CAS) for clothing and hair, or in Build Mode for furniture.

Common Issues (and How to Fix Them)

My CC isn’t showing up. Go back to Game Options → Other and confirm both checkboxes are on. Then restart — Sims 4 needs a full restart to load new CC.

Game crashes on load. One of your .package files is broken or outdated. Move half your Mods folder out, restart, and see if it loads. Binary search until you find the culprit. Delete or update that file.

“Mods folder not showing” — see our dedicated fix guide.

Items look blurry or have weird lines. This is the dreaded “blurry CC” bug, usually caused by outdated graphics drivers or conflicting mods.
